In these recent days after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, we see the power of free speech, and those who want to silence that. Charlie Kirk went onto campuses and promoted free speech, giving a microphone to his most vocal adversaries. He would say, “those who disagree with me, come to the front of the line.” This was a way for Americans to have open discourse with each other in a respectful and civil manner, but there were those factions on the radical left that decided this speech equated to violenced somehow, and met that violence with violence. If you are to look at this example, free speech is definitely under attack.
Let’s look at further examples of this happening in the country. At the end of President Trump’s first term, he was banned from Twitter because of “mean tweets”. He was just expressing his first Amendment right, and he was silenced on that platform for this right. When Tim Allen was seen at a Trump rally before the 2020 election, his show was pulled from ABC because they did not like his political views. When Rosanne Barr said something racist, ABC fired her from her show. These are all infringements on freedom of speech, but the left simply didn’t care, and frankly, applauded these moves.
Now, fast-forward to 2025, and the biggest story on the left is not the silencing of a political and faithful speaker with a bullet in his neck, but the suspension of a talentless hack on ABC. Yes, I’m talking about Jimmy Kimmel who was suspended for a few days from the airwaves because he told a blatant lie to the Americans that watch his show. Now, we have a first Amendment violation according to Hollywood and the left! Oh, no! Jimmy Kimmel is their “martyr” for the first Amendment. The same people that applauded the right wing getting censored, are calling an all-out emergency for Jimmy Kimmel.
The left are the first to blame the Trump administration for Jimmy Kimmel being canceled because the FCC chair made a suggestion that he has the power to investigate and potentially take action against ABC for the lie Kimmel told. If we look at all the available evidence, Trump never ordered the FCC chair to take action, and the FCC hasn’t actually taken action, but merely suggested it. At this point, I think the FCC and federal government should just take a step back, since Jimmy Kimmel is back on air tonight, and let the social consequences take action. The optics of having the FCC investigate, which is actually in their pervue and authority, is not great for the Trump administration. This just gives the left fuel to their fire in their narrative that Trump is a “fascist” or an “authoritarian”. Jimmy Kimmel’s ratings were already in the dumps, and if he continues with his egotistical and wrong narrative, he will alienate himself even more from the American public without any federal intervention.
We do not want to give the left anymore cause to try and take control of things, especially the first Amendment, which is what they always go after to silence those on the right. The country seems to be waking up more and I think the natural consequences will affect the Jimmy Kimmel’s of the world more effectively than the federal government, and it won’t allow for the right-wing to be blamed. The left will, of course continue to blame the right, but it will look as rediculous as ever if everything is done above board.
